FLOWING 6. TOP 26 (20) QB'S

  • Aug 23, 2018
  • 10 min read

This was arguably the toughest post to write because I know I wont take any of the top 10 QB's. THIS IS THE DEEPEST QB CLASS EVER- SERIOUSLY. We have 5 QB's outside the top 12 who own top 8 seasons at the position in the last 3 years.. 3 who have thrown over 30 TD's, and a 2 year removed MVP who shouldn't technically start according to these rankings, that's insane. We have 5 rookie QB's and it looks like 2 will start week 1 (Allen, Darnold) and another 2 who might be week 8 (Darnold if Teddy goes, but then Baker and Rosen (Sam Bradford staying healthy? NOPE)) all of which I think could be fantasy relevant (if Lamar goes to WOW could that be fun). However on the flip side, its such a deep year for all positions really, so drafting a QB early and getting that locked in 20-25 pts is certainly alluring, and if I see Watson or Wentz in round 6/7 ill certainly be temped. BUT YOU CAN GET BREES IN ROUND 10 IN SOME DRAFTS. I would tell you to wait, but if you want a stud QB ive seen plenty of rosters that look just fine going QB slightly early. Enjoy-

1. A-ROD FF QB # N/A ESPN RANK:1

201(6): 16 GP- 610 ATT- 65.7 COMP%- 4428 YARDS- 40 TD- 7 INT- 10.9 AVG- 35 SACK

RUSH: 67 ATT- 369 YARDS- 4.2 AVG- 4 TD

4 of the last 6 seasons Rodgers has played 16 games, problem is the other two were both under 10 (in those 4 seasons, HE ALWAYS FINISHED TOP 2 AT THE POSITION). When healthy he is the most talented (I didn't say the best) QB in the league. Two 40+ TD seasons, and lead the league in the category 2 years ago in his last full season. What separates Aaron is discipline, arm talent, and his sneaky running. He has thrown single digit interceptions every year sense 2011, has TD seasons of 40-38-39-45 in his career, plus he has ran for 3+ TD's in 5 of his 10 seasons. I would never draft him (hes a Packer...), but hes damn good.

2. TB12 FF QB #3 ESPN RANK:2

2017: 16 GP- 581 ATT- 66.3 COMP%- 4577 YARDS- 32 TD- 8 INT- 11.9 AVG- 35 SACK

RUSH: 25 RUSH- 28 YARDS- 0TD

GOAT

3. WATSON FF QB #NA ESPN RANK:6

2017: 6 GS- 204 ATT- 61.8 COMP%- 1699 YARDS- 19 TD- 8 INT- 13.5 AVG- 81.5 QBR

RUSH: 36 RUSH- 269 YARDS- 2 TD- 7.5 AVG

I just think this guy will be viewed as the most dynamic QB in the league following this year. He needs to be more careful with the ball, but his overall arsenal is that of a taller (and possibly faster) Russell Wilson. Insanely quick release and lots of power with just the flick of the wrist, his ability to make throws on the run as well is a elite trait. He was arguably the best college PAC 12 QB of All-Time, and maybe in the conversation for best NCAA QB All-Time, this guy was meant to play high level football. He has beat you to the first down speed, his tools as a runner could possibly be the best of any QB in the NFL (not named Lamar Jackson). I think with Hopkins, Fuller, Braxton Miller (S/O Buckeyes) and Miller setting the pace on the ground Deshaun has enough dudes to throw 30 TD's, and with his ground game, I dont see any way hes not a top 5 QB if fully healthy. Wentz in his year 2 season was on his way to being QB 1 or 2, Watson has the makeup to do the same. Guess what wins you fantasy championships? Believing before seeing, in Watson we trust.

4. WENTZ FF QB #7 ESPN RANK 4

2017: 13 GP- 440 ATT- 60.2 COMP%- 3296 YARDS- 33 TD- 7 INT- 12.4 AVG- 74.4 QBR

RUSH: 64 ATT- 299 YARDS- 0 TD- 4.7 AVG

33 TD in 13 games, he was leading the NFL before his injury. He is perfect, really a perfectly molded 2018 type of QB with his ability to do everything a QB could needs to do. He can escape the pocket, find receivers down field, rush for a 1st down, is smart and poised in the pocket, kid has it all. Doug Peterson is one of the smartest coaches around, and even though his coaching staff got plucked away this past offseason I expect the team to be fine. His weapons include Alshon Jeffery, second best TE in the NFL in Zach Ertz, former 1st round pick Nelson Agholor, new Mike Wallace, plus Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement out of the backfield. Im expecting 35+ passing TD's and Carson might even get a couple on the ground like he did his rookie season. Lead the NFL in QBR last season, he is a smart QB with the system and players to take advantage.

5. CAM FF QB #2 ESPN RANK 3

2017: 16 GP-492 ATT- 59.1 COMP%- 3302 YARDS- 22 TD- 16 INT- 11.3 AVG- 49.6 QBR

RUSH: 139 ATT- 754 YARDS- 6 TD- 5.4 AVG

QBR is suppose to measure the overall performance of a QB by putting in variables like clutch, not killing QB's for throw away in-completions, 4th quarter completions vs 1st quarter, stuff like that. 50 is average, and Cam has finished below that mark the last two seasons.. BUT, THIS ISNT REALITY FOOTBALL, its fantasy football. With his ability to run, he is essentially top 5 proof in fantasy, if he plays 16 games its a slim chance he isn't a top tier QB. STAT FOR YA, Sense entering the league in 2011- Cam has fantasy QB finishes of 3rd, 4th, 4th, 14th, 1st, 16th, and 3rd. So hes either amazing, or hes not. The difference, when he rushes for 6 or more TD's he always finishes top 5- when not hes outside the top 12! The best WR hes ever had is half Kelvin Benjamin and half 53 year old Steve Smith. This year he gets an improved Funchess, touted rook DJ. Moore- and Greg Olson is back playing Mr. Reliable. He wants a Super Bowl and hes running (punny) out of time- I think he has a huge effort in 18' and fantasy will reflect it as well. NOTE: his MVP 2015 season he put up 400 pts, the second highest QB total sense 2010 (Drew Brees 1st).

6. LUCK FF QB #4(2016) ESPN RANK: 7

201(6): 15 GP- 545 ATT- 63.5 COMP%- 4240 YARDS- 31 TD- 13 INT- 12.3 AVG- 65.9 QBR

RUSH: 64 ATT- 341 YARDS- 2 TD- 5.3 AVG

Whatever I said for Wentz, insert here but Luck can do slightly more curls and higher reps on body weight exercises. In every season hes played 15+ games hes had a QBR above 62 with pretty horrific O-lines every year. He has never had a great RB (still doesnt) and he also has a new coach in Frank Reich. Hilton is still in Indy, Jack Doyle is being hyped, apparently Ryan Grant is opp receiver to TY- so this will be interesting. He was QB2 in his last full season so when he plays he is remarkable. I trust his talents, I dont trust this team- thats why hes my QB 6.

7. WILSON FF QB #1 ESPN RANK:5

2017: 16 GP- 553 ATT- 61.3 COMP%- 3983 YARDS- 34 TD- 11 INT- 11.7 AVG- 58.1 QBR

RUSH: 95 ATT- 586 YARDS- 3 TD- 6.2 AVG

Why again fantasy isnt reality football, Wilson's highest QBR was his rookie season (WHAT?!?!) at 72.7- fantasy finish of QB8. Second best QBR season was 2014- Fantasy finish of #5. His second worst QBR season was last year in which he finished first at the position for fantasy... This is why you have to look at the numbers, not game tape. Wilson is currently averaging 5.7 ypc over his career rushing (elite) and has ran for atleast 1 TD every season. He had his second highest rushing yards total last season, coupled with T-1st TD season for QB's at 34, he did everything that fantasy owners wanted after having a lower projection going into 17'. He really needs Doug Baldwin healthy, if not he has no one to throw the ball to. I dont expect last years numbers, but I think hes going to run a lot- low floor high ceiling QB.

8. KIRK FF QB #4 ESPN RANK 9

2017: 16 GP- 540 ATT- 64.3 COMP%- 4093 YARDS- 27 TD- 13 INT- 11.8 AVG- 41 SACK

RUSH: 49 ATT- 179 YARDS- 4 TD- 3.7 AVG

CAPTAIN KIRK- phenomenal movie franchise (STAR TREK) and the nickname of the Vikings QB. Sense 2015, his first full season starting, Kirk has always- thrown for at least 4,000 yards- Had 25+ touchdowns-averaged atleast a 2:1 TD to INT ratio- Has never averaged below 11 ypc- AND HES PLAYED ALL 16 GAMES. People say he had poor receivers in Washington and thats just not true. Desean Jackson is a top 5 dynamic receiver in the 2000's era, Terrell Pryor was good with Cousins, and Jordan Reed when he played was a freek plus Garcon is a legit NFL pro. However, the combination of Thielen, Diggs, Rudolph, MEGAquan, and Cook & company is 100% his best unit to offensive teammates. The line was good enough last year, and although injuries are a slight concern now, they will be fine and its a problem every team faces. His yardage totals have made him ultra consistent having QB finishes of 8th (2015), 5th (2016), and 4th (2017) sense starting full time. WHY DONT I HAVE HIM RANKED HIGHER? He is as safe a bet as any to finish as an elite QB1- I usually dont draft QB's early- but when I do- I prefer CAPTAIN KIRK.

9. BREES FF QB #11 ESPN RANK:11

2017: 16 GP- 536 ATT- 72 COMP%- 4334 YARDS- 23 TD- 8 INT- 11.2 AVG- 20 SACK

I feel like less of a man ranking Dr. Drew this low. Couple numbers for ya. Brees has lead the league in completions 6x (including last year), attempts 4x, completion % 4x (including the NFL record 72% last year), NFL leader in yards 7x, Touchdowns 4x, and interceptions 1x (whoops). They are currently making his statue for Canton right now. But after a career high 673 attempts in 16', in 17' he threw the ball over 140 fewer passes. This team has 2 remarkable backs, USE THEM. Drew has more good years left, unfortunately for us, I think his days of perennial top 3 finishes are up....

10. BEN FF QB #9 ESPN RANK:8

2017: 15 GP- 561 ATT- 64.2 COMP%- 4251 YARDS- 28 TD- 14 INT- 11.8 AVG- 21 SACK

RUSH: 28 RUSH- 47 YARDS- 0 TD- 1.7 AVG

13 year career, hes played 16 games 3x... He is also known for his Home vs Road splits.. I can say I've never owned him, but, he can have those huge weeks that can win you weeks. Last time he played all 16 he led the league with 4952 yards with 32 TD and only 9 interceptions landing him at QB #4 (behind Luck, Rodgers, and Brees in that order). When he plays hes amazing, when hes not, well.. ya. Top 3 on the list of NFL players who would fit right into the 1970's NFL because he doesn't lift a weight besides his cold ones but thats why we love him. Big Ben for top 10, yippy.

11. STAFFORD FF QB #5 ESPN RANK:10

2017: 16 GP: 565 ATT- 65.7 COMP%- 4446 YARDS- 29 TD- 10 INT- 12 AVG- 47 SACK

RUSH: 29 ATT- 98 YARDS- 0 TD- 3.4 AVG

Again, I cant stress how important yards are to QB consistency. Stafford in 2017 was awesome, QB5 in fantasy, 2nd highest comp%, most yardage total in his last 4 seasons, and he threw for the 3rd most TD's in his career to. His last 3 finishes in Fantasy are 10th, 10th, and 5th. His 41 TD season back in 2011 is now firmly an outlier (forgot about that eh?) but I know he will throw a shit ton, take some shots, and finishes top 12. BANG.

12. PATRICK FF QB#N/A ESPN RANK:12

ROOK

Enter unproven young QB who was drafted by a great team and has the regular season QB guru in Andy Reid. Mahomes was so good in practice the Chiefs said goodbye to last years QB6 Alex Smith. He will have targets such as Hill, Kelce, Watkins, and Hunt. He also can run, and if Tyrod Taylor can be startable because of his running my money is on Pat to do the same. I think his lines will read 14/21- 247 yards- 1 TD BUT 7 runs for 42 yards and a score. If you draft Patrick I would buy in on Carr-Mariota-Goff insurance (pick 1). I like him, and he could be RGIII and take the league by storm.

13. RIVERS FF QB #8 ESPN RANK:13

2017: 16 GP- 575 ATT- 62.6 COMP%- 4515 YARDS- 28 TD- 10 INT- 12.5 AVG- 18 SACK

RUSH: 18 ATT- -2 YARDS

He has never missed a game- Has thrown for atleast 4,000 yards sense 2008- 26 + TD every year sense 2008- and has beat his ADP EVERY YEAR OF HIS CAREER (that is an assumption, FYI). I AM RANKING HIM TO LOW. Just draft him, everything else will work itself out, it always does (Hes a God guy, it will work).

14. RYAN FF QB #14 ESPN RANK:15

2017: 16 GP- 529 ATT- 64.7 COMP%- 4095 YARDS- 20 TD- 12 INT- 12 AVG- 24 SACK

RUSH: 32 ATT- 143 YARDS- 0 TD- 4,5 AVG

What a change, Kyle Shannahan leaves, Sarcisian takes over and the Falcons took a nice old shit for fantasy owners. Noone in the offense lived up to ther ADP's.. But this year I see the opposite trend working. Second year under the system, the 28-3 comeback hangover should be fully healed at this point and Julio is healthy. Still has 2 dynamic bacskk that pad his passing stats- I could easily see Ryan finishing top 10. Draft him and feel ok that any given week he can outscore any oposing QB in the NFL.

15. CARR

2017: 15 GP- 515 ATT- 62.7 COMP%- 3496 YARDS- 22 TD- 13 INT- 10.8 AVG- 20 SACK

RUSH: 23 ATT- 66 YARDS- 0TD- 2.9 AVG

16. ALEX FF QB #6 ESPN RANK:16

2017: 15 GP- 505 ATT- 67.5 COMP%- 4042 YARDS- 26 TD- 5 INT- 11.9 AVG- 35 SACK

RUSH: 60 ATT- 355 YARDS- 1 TD- 5.9 AVG

16.(B) BARSTOOL BORTLES FF QB #12 ESPN RANK:28

2017: 16 GP- 523 ATT- 60.2 COMP%- 3687 YARDS- 21 TD- 13 INT- 11.7 AVG- 24 SACK

RUSH: 57 ATT- 322 YARDS- 2 TD- 5.6 AVG

17. JIMMY FF QB #N/A ESPN RANK:14

2016: 5 GS- 178 ATT- 67.4 COMP%- 1560 YARDS- 7 TD- 5 INT- 13 AVG- 8 SACK

RUSH: 15 ATT- 11 YARDS

18. MARIOTA FF QB #18 ESPN RANK:17

2017: 15 GP- 453 ATT- 62 COMP%- 3232 YARDS- 13 TD- 15 INT- 11.5 AVG- 27 SACK

RUSH: 60 ATT- 312 YARDS- 5 TD- 5.2 AVG

19. GOFF FF QB #13 ESPN RANK 19

2017: 15 GP- 477 ATT- 62.1 COMP%- 3804 YARDS- 28 TD- 7 INT- 12.9 AVG- 25 SACK

RUSH: 28 ATT- 51 YARDS- 1 TD- 1.8 AVG

20. DAK FF QB #10 ESPN RANK:18

2017: 16 GP- 490 ATT- 62.9 COMP%- 3324 YARDS- 22 TD- 13 INT- 10.8 AVG- 32 SACK

RUSH: 57 ATT- 357 YARDS- 6 TD- 6.3 AVG
